Top forest walks in Cavan!

Get outdoors this summer and enjoy some of Cavan's beautiful forest walks

1. Dun a Ri Forest Park

Located just outside Kingscourt on the Carrickmacross Road, Dun a Ri is one of the most beautiful and historic forest parks in the country. Legend has it that Cuchullain himself rested here while fighting the armies of Queen Maeve of Connaught. THere are four marked trails of varying length in Dun a Ri, all of which take you through gorgeous woodland paths amidst ancient trees and rich wildlife. Click here for more.

      

2. Killykeen Forest Park

Between Cavan town and Killeshandra, Killykeen Forest Park is wrapped around the interlinking waterways of Lough Oughter . A famous fishing location, the park is also popular with walkers and families. With several marked walking trails and a 3K family cycle trail, Killykeen is one of the most beautiful places in Cavan to get away from it all. What's more, in May - August visitors to the park can rent bikes, canoes and kayaks and explore the waterways and pathways beautiful Killykeen.  Click here for more

  

3. Castle Lake Forest

So much to see here in at the Castle Lake, just outside Bailieborough. Visitors love the 5km walk around the lake with lake views all round. There are a variety of other walks in the forest. More information and a map are here or follow Castle Lake Forest on Facebook.

      

4. Deerpark Forest, Virginia

A beautiful forest on the outskirts of Virginia with paths along Lough Ramor. Enjoy strolling over stone bridges, past historic sites and along the shoreline of stunning Lough Ramor. Entrance to the forest is on just outside Virginia on the Ballyjamesduff road (park at Virginia Rugby Club).
