Geopark Events in July 2019

The UNESCO Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark in Cavan and Fermanagh is is home to some of the world’s most spectacular and geologically significant landscapes. A programme of exciting and events takes place throughout the year allowing you to engage with the Geopark. Join Geopark guides as they explore and uncover some of the marvels and mysteries of these wonderful landscapes. Most events are free and everybody is welcome!

Sunday 7th July

Time: 1.45pm  A Walk in the Shadow of Cuilcagh (Cathal Buί Festival)

Meet at Gowlan Church, Blacklion, GPS: 54.25, -7.89

As part of the Cathal Buí Festival join local Geopark Guide Séamus O’hUltacháin on a guided tour highlighting the wonderful built and natural heritage of the tranquil lake at Garvagh, located on limestone bedrock.  Features of interest along the walk include Poll naOwen sinkhole, megalithic tombs, abandoned farmsteads, wildflowers and wonderful views of Cuilcagh Mountain. Time: 2pm Explore the Geopark by Canoe

Meet at Cavan Adventure Centre, Inishmore, Butlersbridge, GPS:54.03, -7.43.

Why not see our Geopark from a different perspective!  Join Cavan Canoe Centre and Geopark staff  and experience the beauty of Lough Oughter and surrounding landscape which was shaped by the power of glaciers over 13,000 years ago.  Learn about the wonderful biodiversity of this area, a designated Special Area of Conservation.  Visit Clough Oughter Island and see the amazing plantation castle.  The cost of this event is € 25 adults/€ 15 children. Booking is essential.  For more information and to book a place please contact +353 (0) 49 9526121 during office hours.
