Run with Catherina

The annual Run with Catherina event takes place on Sunday, 8 October at 1pm. This participative events offers the opportunity to take run, walk or jog alongside a true great of athletics, Catherina McKiernan.

The Run with Catherina event was conceived by Annalee Athletics Club, Cavan County Council, and Cavan Sports Partnership to pay tribute to a world-renowned Cavan athlete.

During a glittering career, Catherina McKiernan won a gold medal at the 1994 Cross Country European Championships, alongside four consecutive World Championship silver medals, represented Ireland at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, and won the 1998 London Marathon.

The event starts from The Orchard Bar, Drumalee, at 1 pm, and participants can sign up for a 5km or a 10km route through Cavan Town and its environs, accurately measured and certified by Athletics Ireland.

There is a prize fund of €2,500, but even if you’re new to running, you can still grab a memento, with a free technical t-shirt for the first 600 entrants

There are plenty of great things to see and do in Cavan so why don’t you and your running partners make a weekend of it? Or bring your family along to enjoy some family run on Saturday before the race on Sunday! For more information, see this very website!

The entry fee for the 10k is €15 and entry for the 5k is €12.

Parking: There is ample parking in the vicinity with toilet facilities at the race start. Race registration and activities will be at the Orchard Bar, Cootehill Road, Cavan.
