Geopark Events in June 2019

The UNESCO Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark in Cavan and Fermanagh is is home to some of the world’s most spectacular and geologically significant landscapes. A programme of exciting and events takes place throughout the year allowing you to engage with the Geopark. Join Geopark guides as they explore and uncover some of the marvels and mysteries of these wonderful landscapes. Most events are free and everybody is welcome!

Sunday 9th June     Geopark Gourmet Tour

Time: 9.30am – 6pm    Meet at Market House, Blacklion 
A unique taste of the Geopark.  The day begins with a tour of the incredible underground cave system of the Marble Arch Caves, a gourmet lunch in the award-winning The Olde Post Inn, before finally taking a  boat trip from Cavan Adventure Centre around the amazing waterways of Lough Oughter, which will feature Clogh Oughter.  Booking essential.  € 45 pp or € 25 per child. Wear sturdy footwear and warm waterproof clothing. Sunday 16th June  Geopark Orchid Walk
Time: 2pm  Meet at Doobally Church, Dowra

Saturday 22nd June Solstice Sunrise Walk at Cavan Burren Park 
Time: 4.30am   Meet at Interpretative Centre, Cavan Burren Park , Blacklion 
Experience the magic of the Summer Solstice with local Geopark Guide Seámus O’hUltacháin at Cavan Burren Park.  Enjoy a guided sunrise walk around this amazing relict landscape.  Walkers will be guided to the famous prehistoric monuments of Cavan Burren to experience how our ancestors related their place of burial and worship to the astronomical phenomenon which marks the longest day and shortest night of the year.  Free event.  Booking Essential.  Please wear sturdy footwear and bring warm waterproof clothing. Sunday 23rd June Seán Éamoinn Ruairί Trail (Fleadh na Rίochta, Glangevlin
Time: 2pm – 4pm  Meet at Glangevlin Hall

Saturday 29th June  Moneygashel – A Walk through Time (Cathal Buί Festival)
Time: 11.30am   Meet at Gowlan Church, Blacklion
Enjoy a guided tour of the mystical surroundings of Moneygashel Cashel.  Discover examples of stone working spanning from prehistoric times to 20th century with local Geopark Guide Séamus Ó’hUltacháin.  Distance approx. 4km.  Walk will last approx. 2 hours. € 5 for adults and children free.  Wear sturdy footwear and warm waterproof clothing. Saturday, 29th June    Cycling the Geopark Way in Killykeen Forest Park 
Time: 2pm   Meet at Main Car Park, Killykeen Forest Park, Cavan 
As part of Bike Week 2019 experience the Geopark through a different perspective.  Join Geopark and Cavan Adventure Centre staff and enjoy cycling a trail around this majestic park.  Learn about the geology and biodiversity of the park while taking in breathtaking views. Sunday 30th June  Exploring a Prehistoric Landscape, Cavan Burren Park (Cathal Buί Festival)
Time: 1.45pm    Meet at Interpretative Centre, Cavan Burren Park , Blacklion                
As part of the Cathal Buί Community Arts and Heritage Festival, experience a guided tour of the wonderful prehistoric landscape of Cavan Burren Park.  Learn more about the magnificent megalithics, the amazing geology and the intriguing folklore of this special landscape with local Geopark Guide Séamus Ó’hUltacháin.  Walk will last approx. 3 hours.
