This is Cavan - a fresh start in promoting the County.

Cavan County Council Tourism Office organised a promotional visit to New York by Cllr. Sean McKiernan and Martin Gaffney (Fleadh PRO) and Brand Designer, in October 2012.

The purpose of the visit was to promote a new brand for the county, a brand that marks a fresh start in promoting the county as a destination for tourism and enterprise. The brand advocates met with a number of groups and organisations including; the Cavan P&B Association, Enterprise Ireland, Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann North America and The Consul General of Ireland.

The feedback from the presentations was very positive resulting in a number of exciting and innovative actions being considered for 2013. Among the initiatives proposed are a pivotal launch of the Cavan tourism and enterprise strategy in New York in March 2013, a celebration of ‘Cavan Americans’ at an exhibition in Cavan County Museum and a Independence Day Celebration in Crover House Hotel County Cavan in July 2013.

The brand ‘This is Cavan’ was launched locally by The Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD at the Business and tourism awards in the Kilmore Hotel in September. Remarking on the Counties tradition of collaboration, Mr Kenny commented that the new brand for Cavan is driven by the same collaborative approach that Cavan displayed in hosting the very successful three in a row All Ireland Fleadhs from 2010-2012 and which helped Cavan’s national and international profile to grow.

This is Cavan is an initiative that aims to strategically promote and manage County Cavan’s tourism and enterprise resource. Research showed that there was a gap between the perception of Cavan as a visitor and enterprise destination and of the experience on offer.

The brand sets out to accurately reflect the true experience of Cavan. The Taoiseach said he was heartened to see that County wide, people and organisations are taking the best of what the County has to offer and working closely together to present a unified brand that emphasises the good humour, friendliness, creativity and the many surprises that await visitors to a much undiscovered part of Ireland.

In the next stage, the Brand development team are ensuring that the new identity continues to develop across important areas such as the new website set to launch in February, trade and vacation / holiday fairs and all communication activities as well as developing an overall plan for positioning County Cavan and enhancing its image over the next five years.

The Gathering committee in Cavan are about to publish the calendar of Gathering events which are also being planned and developed at present. Both the Brand and the Gathering teams will be working very closely with colleagues in the Cavan P&B Association in New York to bring about an exciting year of activities on both sides of the Atlantic.
